Dream Home Move
I love when a previous client reaches out again for support. It means that they trust me with the details of their daily lives and it means that I can support them better because I know what their life and family rhythms are like. Ash and her family recently moved homes and I was thrilled to get a call saying that she wanted to get things set-up well right from the start. She too has young kids beginning their schooling journeys, so it felt even more important to get them functioning in their new home before the Fall frenzy took over.

During the last week of August and first of September, I tackled what was key: front entryway/closets, kitchen, and finally, their family washroom. If nothing else when you move, prioritize these spaces first so you exist with some sense of ease amidst the boxes that you will eventually get to. Having a functioning kitchen to make sure you’re eating well, a landing zone for coming and going and all of your meds and toiletries set up makes a huge difference as you navigate a big transition like moving.
Below, Ash shares her full experience working with me. Such KIND words and I am so glad I could support this lovely family as they settle into their dream home!

Words from Ash
“When our offer was accepted on our dream home, my first text was to my best friend and my second text was to Laura.
She’d helped us discover space, storage solutions, and functionality as our family slowly grew into (and then out of) our smaller semi-detached home. Laura instinctively understands and appreciates the way a house can be organized to support the rhythm of family, and her skill made our first home feel livable and peaceful as our kids got bigger.
Once we moved, I wanted every part of the house to function in a way that would support our family’s unique day-to-day. Even though we have more space, it was still a priority that our home had a logical flow during what is a very chaotic life stage for us.
The Sorted Nest is such an invaluable resource for parents. Laura factored our kids’ age and stage into her suggestions and takes the time to understand our needs and lifestyle. She also clearly believes in children’s autonomy; her organizing style defaults to supporting them as full members of a household. She helped us increase our children’s independence by making sure they could both find and easily reach everything they need to get themselves ready at the beginning of the day.
Laura supported us in the early days of our big move in so many different ways: directions about the layout of our space, sourcing organizational solutions and tools, arranging our kitchen in a functional way, and creating a beautiful “command centre” in a front hall closet for our school-aged daughter. One noteworthy and sentimental touch: Laura painted the shelf in the command centre the same colour as the walls of our old nursery. It’s deeply meaningful to see our daughter’s backpack beside that peach hue of her newborn stage.
Laura works incredibly efficiently on her own, but my favourite way to work with her is when we’re body doubling. Her support and warmth were invaluable to what was an emotionally challenging transition. At times it felt like Laura was that unicorn of a friend; the one who sees when things are hard and just says, “I’ve got this”. All those little tasks that take forever to get done, because they have one too many steps? Just ask Laura. Her ability to take on the cognitive and manual labour necessary for finicky jobs around the house is unparalleled.
Moving is never easy, but with Sorted Nest, it came close. At times, it was genuinely fun and exciting, because I knew our home was being organized in a way that would last. I can’t thank Laura enough for the way she’s supported our family and I recommend her with my whole heart to anyone going through a big transition or move.”
